Suzanne leads a members' evening !

A thinking approach to photography in all its guises.

Suzanne Ladd is a member who often surprises us with her photos, and her determination to master the complexity of Zoom in order to give her presentation on Thursday certainly paid off in terms of customer satisfaction!

Suzanne led an evening in which she showed the full range of her photographic interests over a number of years, and gave us a real insight into her thinking and creativity. Photos of places visited, both at home and abroad, were ably narrated, and punctuated with wise quotes from Ansel Adams, and were accompanied by useful explanations with regard to what had motivated her in terms of composition and intent.

Inevitably, shots taken in visits across the UK featured a good deal of rain, giving rise to a host of umbrellas, puddles and raincoats. The lights and reflections captured in and around Bristol, Devon and Somerset, together with the rainbow over Dunster were a delight, as were the photos of rusty details and colourful shoes that somehow define Suzanne’s work. Equally interesting were the atmospheric details of her trip to the Lakes and the ancient stone circles at Castlerigg.

Attempts to capture the feel of a place took Suzanne and us further afield, to Montana and Wichita; to the snows and mountains of the Tetons, and to the wide open spaces, and spectacular hues, of Wyoming in the Fall. Suzanne’s trips to India gave rise to a host of images featuring colour and texture, and we were treated also to the delights of mono portraits, often of Indian men, using light creatively.

Our next competition focusses on Intentional Camera Movement and Multiple Exposures and Suzanne has experimented with a range of abstractions that will have provided her with more than a few entries for this. Her carefully considered approach to street photography and a simple vase of tulips were good examples of this, and her explanations of techniques used, and the reasons behind her thinking, really gave rise to a very well received member evening.
