Open Print October 2024

Jane Richardson back in the frame, and a great abstract from Dave Bathard!

Our judge for the October Open Print Competition, Doug Lodge from Crossbow Camera Club, was enthusiastic about the number and quality of the entries from our members. He was meticulous in his attention to detail, and gave us much useful feedback and advice, whilst urging us above all to “keep it simple.” He echoed other advice I have heard in the past to print on matt rather than glossy paper, and made some interesting comments on possibilities for cropping or cloning out the oft called annoying little “eye worms” that, once noticed, are hard to ignore!

Results are as follows:

Colour Print: Suzanne Ladd and John Scaife were Commended respectively for the very well-captured “Go with the Curl” and nicely composed “Breakwater”, whilst Jill Toman’s “Blackchurch Rock” was Highly Commended. Bill Collett took 3rd place with “Flying Angel”, an intentional camera movement image from our recent visit, to Sculptures by the Lakes. 2nd place went to Jenny Short’s colourful “Light on Glass”, with Jane Richardson taking first place with her very simple, classic shot of “Abandoned Wheel”.

Mono Print: The winner was Dave Bathard with his abstract “Sunlight on Raindrops”, again taken on the Dorset Lakes trip. Diana Walker took both 2nd and 3rd places with her wildlife images “Fox on the Prowl” and “Mink Reflection”. Bill Collett and Jenny Short were Highly Commended for “Tears in the Rain” and “Waiting to Skate”, and Bill was again Commended for the abstract “Man behind bars”. The other image Commended in the mono section was Dave Bathard’s “Snowdonia Water Sport.”

Congratulations to all our winners- their images will shortly feature on the website once I receive them, and many thanks to all who entered- 55 in all! Let’s have the November entries for Triptychs.

Next week we get the chance to take a look at, and comment on , the WCPF Audio Visual 2023 entries.

Jenny Short.
