It's tough at the top and wild in the Warren!
More summer ramblings.......

Glastonbury Tor, on one of the hottest days in June…. that was the challenge a number of members chose to take on the middle of flaming June, and from the photos they took, I can only think they enjoyed the outing without me! Together they toiled to the top, and once there, took a multitude of photos, not only of the magnificent views, but of themselves to prove they made it!
I understand that quite a few members took the opportunity to go on this walk, organised by Suzanne Ladd, our summer trip coordinator. Now on a private trip of her own ,complete with bicycle and camera, and accompanied by Jill Toman, she herself missed this week’s offering.
The planned trip to Lacock was postponed to a later date in order to avoid the tourists that descend on the village during the summer months and make photography a little difficult other than street. Instead, Diana led us on a wild wander through the undulating Ubley Warren where once the occupying Romans mined for lead. We went in search of lizards and snakes, and found few if any, but we did stumble across a group of young climbers scaling the rocks, and hear another group of youngsters enjoying the delights of the nearby woodland. Knowledgeable as ever, Diana led the way, identifying butterflies, moths and flora, leading us eventually to a tranquil lake, where we gratefully sat, chatted and recorded the water lilies and orchids.
The beautiful weather continues, and as a group we want to make the most of it. Next Thursday we plan a trip to The Wave, where we hope to catch some surfing action throughout the day with members arriving and leaving when convenient to themselves. No doubt the excellent facilities in the café and shop will draw us together for a natter at some point. This will be the last of our organised walks, but the enthusiasm continues, and we meet as a Committee on 3rd July to fill in a few details for next season, and plan our two upcoming exhibitions in Midsomer Norton on 8th July and at Writhlington on August 19t.h We hope that some of you will come and see us at either venue.
