Competition Results April 22 The Letter P
Nature shots dominate the Colour Competiton
29/04/2022
Pip Rabbitts, well known to NRPS members, was the friendly face of judging for our annual competition based upon subject matter starting with “the Letter P” on our regular Thursday Zoom.
Pip was very clear about her criteria for judging, and explained them clearly having deliberated for some time over our efforts. Unimpressed by images that did not match the title given, or convey sufficiently the “P” connection, she nevertheless provided valuable feedback on composition and editing that was duly appreciated and taken on board, and will undoubtedly influence our future work.
The Colour section was won by Graham Nicholls with his rendition of “Pulsatilla Vulgaris” that was pin sharp and vibrant. His colourful “Phasant” was also commended . Nature shots prevailed, with Diana Walker taking 2nd and 3rd places in the section with her “Peacock” and her “Painted Lady”. Diana was also highly commended for “Poppy in the Rain”, whilst Suzanne Ladd was similarly highly commended for “Pony Race Point to Point”.
The Mono section was won by Janice Cuer with her graphic and beautifully composed photo entitled “Pier”. In second place was Jill Toman with “Pigeon Chasing” and her “Pilates” was Highly Commended. Jenny Short’s frequent visits to the Midsomer Norton and Shepton Mallet Skateparks were rewarded by 3rd place with “Pursuit”. Suzanne Ladd was Highly commended for the very clever “Putting Pen to Paper”, and Pamela Bruce Lockhart’s “Spirit of Photography” was commended.
Pip was warmly thanked for her time and clear explanations, and will surely feature in our programme as an invited judge in future.
Next week we look forward to a presentation by Sara Howard on Landscape Photography and, if we can organise a judge for the May Competition, members will be handing in entries for the monthly Competition, which is Open. Comments on the April Challenge will be welcomed on the website and the May challenge will be detailed early next week so watch the space!.
