Newest member takes the Witcombe trophy!
Success for Louise with "Angel Wings"
14/05/2021
Members were pleased to be able to award the Witcombe Millennial Trophy as one of its annual awards for 2020, despite the fact that its context changed as a result of the Pandemic.
Founder member and now President, Margot Witcombe, has always awarded the trophy to the photographer whose image received the most popular vote at the club Exhibition held annually in September or October. This did not take place in 2020 as a result of the Covid epidemic, so members asked Margot if she would choose a personal favourite from images they submitted to her that WOULD have been included in an Exhibition 2020, so that the Cup was not gathering dust awaiting the next. Margot duly deliberated for several weeks before the results were announced at our regular Thursday meeting on May 13th.
Four images made the final cut; “Happy Valentine’s Day” an abstract multiple exposure of roses, by Jenny Short, “Raspberry Splash”, a moment in time ably captured by Tony Nineham in response to a weekly challenge , Jane Lewis’s “Rain on the Pier”, and Louise Bailey’s “Angel Wings”.
It was new member, Louise Bailey, who caught Margot’s eye to be awarded the trophy. The image of a swan gliding, wings outstretched, on the moat at Wells was beautifully captured, with amazing detail in the plumage, which is often so difficult to capture on one so white. Louise was delighted, and it was a well-deserved win that we are sure will not be her last.
We are currently planning our days out in the summer months, and Suzanne Ladd has been planning the first of these for 3rd of June when we look to explore Portishead. The club continues to grow and thrive-just take a look at the website and the galleries! If you are interested in joining us do make contact through the facility on nrps.org.uk. We welcome new members-Louise can vouch for that !!
