April 2023 The Letter Q

From Queens toQuizzes and Quarries!
29/04/2023
Pip Rabbits has long been associated with NRPS, and is becoming firmly established as our preferred judge for the annual challenge that requires members to produce images based upon letters of the alphabet. This year the letter “Q” resulted in various Queens, Quaker Oats, Quinoa and Quarries. Pip was her usual no nonsense self, and gave us very balanced and measured feedback having carefully considered the brief, together with some great judgements that duly considered artistic licence within it. Everyone had something to celebrate from her insight, and we appreciated fully the hard wok and effort that she had afforded the task we gave her. She is very welcome anytime!

Janice Cuer, keen to take advantage of the skills acquired at practical sessions, as well as her new lighting set up, produced four table top images out of her total of six and was highly successful gaining a first place in the Colour section, together with both Commended and Highly Commended in the Mono. Tony Nineham took first place in the Mono and was Commended in the Colour. All the placed images can be seen in the competition section of our website and the results on the night were as follows:

Colour:
Commended Pamela Bruce Lockhart with “Queen Rules OK” and Tony Nineham with “ICM QUILT”. Highly Commended : Jill Toman “Quagmire” and Jenny Short “Quadbike” 3rd Gill Pitman with “Quince (Japanese)” and 2nd Suzanne Ladd with “Working Quarry , St Austell”

Janice Cuer’s “Quiet Space” depicting the impressive Liverpool Library took the honours deservedly.

Mono:
Commended Graham Nicholls with “Diamond Wedding Anniversary Card” and Janice again with “Quiz Corner”. Highly Commended : the same two members with Graham Nicholls’ “Quadbikes in the Air” and Janice Cuer with “Quick March”. 3rd Suzanne Ladd with “Queen’s Ferry Crossing, and 2nd Jenny Short with “Quill”

Tony Nineham is fast getting a reputation for his landscapes, and his atmospheric mono, “Hartland Quay”, gained him 1st place.

Next week we get to see what the Audio Visual Group have been getting up to, meeting regularly through the season in a room at Paulton Rovers FC , enjoying their hospitality.
